Flat Panel TV mounting question?

I am planning on mounting my Flat Panel TV on the wall of a new room we just built. I put a sheet of 1/2 inch OSB board on the wall and then put drywall over it so as to be able to mount the tv wherever I want. Do you think it will hold, or should I still mount it into the studs? The TV weighs about 85lbs. Thanks.

Always go with the studs for something that heavy and valuable. Have you seen that commercial on TV where the guy’s flat panel crashes to the floor? I cringe every time I see it.

i would still use studs. tv expensive dont let it fall. osb with toggle bolts would be the best way if you do mount it without studs

Here is a general link to all questions related to mounting TV on a wall. I answered one long ago, with a link from aol and their resident DIY guide.

As others state, Fixing the TV to studs is likely the best way to proceed, and I wouldn’t use MDF for anything. (Just my personal opinion).

Always use studs to mount your TV. Even though the OSB that you but behind would probably work fine I would make sure you protect your investment.

Studs is the way to go with something like that.

You have to mount it into the studs. The consistant weight will eventually cause the wall to sag otherwise.
