Is it ok to paint the housing on a flat panel tv?

I wanted to place a flat panel above a faux fireplace which is bright white along with all the trim and entertainment shelves. and the wall is medium brown color, I thought it would look cool if the housing on the tv was white like all the accents in the middle of the brown wall, but I dont know if it is a good idea to paint it or not. I know I would need to cover up the screen as good as I can so that it doesnt get any paint, but would I have to prime it and then paint or just paint right off the bat? Let me know what you think I could or should do, Thanx.

Sorry, I think that would look tacky. Too, white paint can often turn yellow with time. I think most of these TV's look sleek as they are. Don't paint it. You might consider building a wooden frame around it and painting that white.

The heat of the TV probably will cause discoloration. You are better off getting a automotive trim kit with a vinyl base. This would be made of a similar material to the TV case and could be taken off later. Think rose wood or a custom cut picture frame made of PVC extruded casing glued together and attached with Velcro, would be a second option.

I have found once painted there is no going back, so avoid if possible.

My suggestions will not void the warranty but painting most certainly will.

In many TVs, you can just pull the "bezel". It may make it easier to paint.

Manufacturers use a variety of materials: Acrylic , metal, plastic, to name a few, so you have to pick the one that matches your bezel.
