I bought this TV at BJ's Wholesale Club for $400.00. Who ever paid over a thousand is a sucker. The TV is awesome but the HD is not as good as my Samsung, but my Samsung had to have the power supply unit replaced in it and I've only had it for 1 year. So there are pros and cons to everything.
Pro : Very durable and easy to use
Con : The HD is a little less vibrant then other HD TVs I've seen in the past.

I told my brother this past summer that I was looking for a new TV. He insisted I look really close at the Sony HDTV.

Got one just before Christmas, at a great deal, delivery & installation included and have absolutely no regrets.

Everyone comments on the image quality!
Pro : Overall great image & sound quality
Con : None

This TV is amazing. It has wonderful colors and a great HD picture. There are no flaws on this display. I had seen this TV at BB and after comparing it to all the others there it was by far the best. I guess that's why BB uses this model for their display for the PS3 and Blueray players in the store. After I bought this TV and brought it home I was even more impressed with it than I could have ever imagined. I have no regret for buying this TV. It's the best on the market. The reviews of this mode dont give it justice. If you buying between 40"-42", this is the model for you. It's a dream come true.
Pro : Great Picture
Con : Cant stop watching.

This model is really nice, but has a major flaw. Some of the units, I saw at least 3 at a local BB store, have a bubbling of the lower speaker grill in the center of the unit. The grill on these units is kind of a semi-soft plastic decal that is glued on. I ended up getting the earlier model: Sony KDL-40V2500 which has a hard plastic grill that is affixed in a totally different manner. No reports from any salespersons regarding issues with the older version.
Pro : No issues with display
Con : Grilles on this model creating returns for stores

For picture quality, you won't find any better, especially at this price. Match this set up with a good upconverter DVD player and dish TV or Direct TV. I have dish and am very happy. The distance you sit from the TV is one of the most important things to consider. I'm around 12 feet from this 40" set, and I'm very happy. At 12 feet I could go with either a 46" or maybe 50" TV in the future. My upconverted DVD's look like HD. Seriously, there is no need to buy an HD player at this time. I've added Dolby Digital 5.1 for true theatre sound, which is actually better than being in the theatre. I looked at the XBR's, and could not find any reason to pay the extra money for them. This set, at 8ms refresh is perfect for fast action sports like auto racing and basketball.
Pro : Picture
Con : Deep Dark Blacks

Sony has been getting a bad, unjustified rap from many of the Samsung supporters who would have you believe Sony's HD television sets use inferior, deeply flawed technology with "clouds" in the picture. I first bought a 32" Samsung, impressed by the richly saturated, brilliant colors. After the set kept "buzzing" at certain audio features, I bought it back and exchanged it for a Sony 40V2500. At first I couldn't get over how much better the picture was--detailed, nuanced, realistic without exaggerated color. (I'm talking about the limited number of good hi-def channels offered by Warner in my area.) When I saw that the 40V3000 offered desirable features--especially one-touch Theater Synch and 24fps movie motion--I decided to pay the extra and make the switch. Like the 40V2500, the 40V3000 is capable of producing a literally flawless picture, one leaving nothing to be desired. Moreover, the audio quality is getting a bum rap, imo. In a small, live room like mine, the sound is spacious, full-frequencied, and full. I've got loads of stereo equipment, sub-woofers, amps, top-shelf JBls with 14" woofers. But none of that would increase my enjoyment of the viewing experience. Only one minor complaint: the remote switch is the size and weight of the remote that comes with 50-dollar DVD player. It's highly functional and versatile, but it's also easy to misplace and break.
Pro : Detailed, life-like picture
Con : Skimpy remote switch

U cannot believe how good the picture of this tv is. Really breathtaking. The sound lets u a little down but on the other hand dont expect the boxy sound of the old crt tvs with their big enclosures. Pictures and controls are plenty. The blacks are wonderful, the colors fascinating. Ease of use and beatyful. Sony right on the spot with this tv.
Pro : picture quality
Con : sound a little normal

Before I go any further I think I should mention that I have worked in the television field for nearly 20 years. This includes time as a cameraman & editor at a major TV station in a top 10 market; and owning a broadcast editing and media duplication company for the past 18 years.
We just got this set less than a week ago and the picture right out of the box wihout any major tweaking is SUPERB. It is in fact better than what I see on our broadcast type CRT monitors at my studio. (And just to allay any doubts - we've had Sony commercial HD equipment in our studios for close to 8 months,)
The various video options and connections will work in most home situations. I found the speakers on this set to be only about average in audio quality. Of course, we have a high end sound system in our home; with mostly McIntosh audio equipment and higher end JM Lab speakers - so the comparison is probably not the fairest. In any event, we route most of our audio through our audio system and it sounds much better that way.
Having looked at most of the major brand offerings in the 40-42 inch screen screen size - both plasma and LCD -I think it's hard to find a better picture for an under $2000.00 set. I highly recommend this Sony model to anyone looking in this end of the HD screen market.
Pro : Superb Picture Quality - Very Bright
Con : Speakers are average
