What is the typical life of a LCD tv pixel?

I am thinking of buying a flat screen tv, but I am worried that after a couple of years the pixels will start to die. I know that there is a standard for dead & stuck pixels in manufacture of flat screens, but how long should a LCD screen last? How does this compare to a plasma screen?

you can get a dead pixel as soon as you turn it on first time. It's just the luck of the draw. With over a million pixels to make the picture there is a good chance of this.

At work even a sony had a dead pixel with 1 month, a panasonic had five dead pixels within 48 hours.

Anything with pixels, tft screens, mobile phones, lcds, plasmas, portable dvd have the same problem
