Is it ok to lay a plasma tv flat for transport? What will the consequences be if the gasses mess up?

I had to transport my Plasma TV home laid flat in my car because it couldn’t fit upright. It was a half hour drive, the screen is undamaged but I’m wondering if the gasses will have been messed up and if so what the consequences might be?

the danger in transporting a plasma laying down is in risking the glass cracking under the weight. if the screen looks fine, it should be ok.

Since you have transported already and see no damage there should be no problems. The biggest concern with plasma sets is the glass display. Since it is only supported by the edges, laying the unit flat stresses the glass in the middle where there is no support and so there is always a chance the glass will crack under the strain. However you have already done the move and the glass display seems to have survived so you don’t have anything to worry about.

The screen of a Plasma TV can be in any position you want it to be in. It will always work fine.

When transporting the TV, you want to keep it in a upright position to keep the screen from getting damaged. Bouncing up and down on it’s face or back will cause the screen to flex un-naturally and can damage it! You can move the TV on it’s face or back as long as the screen has support and there aren’t any objects that can bump or penetrate the screen. Most people will put a thick blanket or pillow underneath and/or on top of the TV for added support.

Don’t worry, the gases in your TV will be fine! Just be extra careful when transporting it!
